Product detailed description

Handmade in Japan - Gestalten & Irwin Wong

At a time when global interest in handmade products from small workshops is growing in response to mass production, the book Handmade in Japan looks into the workshops of Japanese craftsmen. It reveals their tireless pursuit of perfection and what it means to devote an entire life to caring for irreplaceable cultural heritage. Here you will find inspiration in exploring handmade production processes using sustainable materials and understanding how far these creators are willing to go to make each product perfect. From hand-painted kimono dyeing to carving wooden trays, Handmade in Japan introduces craftsmen from various regions of Japan and offers a unique insight into their traditions and work processes. The book also includes the work of Daizo Mitsukawa, who specializes in making nokogiri hand saws, and a chapter on urushi lacquer. It appears, for example, on some knife handles in our offer or serves as a key component for repairing ceramics in kintsugi set.
