Manufacturer

It was founded by Yuki Matano with the desire to introduce the traditional Japanese technique to the world beyond her native country. One day, when she broke a plate and was looking online for a way to repair it, she came across kintsugi. From the initial surprise of reading about the technique for the first time, despite how strongly it is linked to her culture, she developed a fascination and a desire to further develop her knowledge and skills. She began learning from master lacquers and other professionals and became completely engrossed in the craft technique. Remembering how she felt as a beginner, she subsequently created the simplest possible set for everyone who also wants to try kintsugi. It wasn't long before her brand Tsugu Tsugu, under which she sold the kit, became very popular not only in Japan but also abroad. Since 2020, more than 10,000 people worldwide have ordered TSUGUKIT to give new life to things that are dear to them.

Warning

With repaired products, it is necessary to observe some rules:
1. Repaired items cannot be used in microwaves, dishwashers, and ovens
2. Repaired dishware must be washed by hand and not left soaking in water for long periods
3. Hot beverages can be served in repaired dishware, but they must not be exposed to sudden temperature changes.

Repairing with the kintsugi technique is relatively time-consuming. Some time is needed for preparation and cleaning of tools, and the gluing process itself. The longest part is the curing of individual layers - the gluing needs to rest for at least one week, with all other layers for at least one day.

Protective Equipment

Raw urushi lacquer can cause skin irritation and rashes when in direct contact with the skin. It is therefore strongly advised to use rubber gloves while working with kintsugi, wear long sleeves, and keep hair tied back.

Repairing with Kintsugi Technique

There are so many things that we can repair at home and continue using. I don't believe in throwing away things we love. Those that matter to us, whether it's socks, a chair, a spoon, earrings, a bag, or a mug.
