    Stryi Carving Drawknife

    The hand-made drawknife from Stryi is smaller in size and has a straight and thin blade. In addition to flat faceting work and bark removal, it can be used, for example, in rough preparation of rounding for subsequent turning or used as a quick plane in projects where speed is more important than finer surface finish. The thin blade is also ideal for shaping wooden products, creating complex concave or convex curves. All of this makes the Stryi drawknife a very versatile and useful tool in any wood workshop. The blade is made of carbon steel, which holds an edge excellently and is exceptionally tough. The handles are made of oak treated with linseed oil.

    Manufacturer

    Stryi is a Ukrainian manufacturer of carving tools. The company was founded in 2009 and its name matches the name of the city it comes from - Stryi, in the western part of Ukraine. Their production focuses on carving and woodworking tools, continuing a tradition prevalent especially around the Carpathian Mountains. In production, Stryi maintains full control over each phase, from template preparation and shaping to heat treatment, polishing, sharpening, and adjustment.

    Material

    The blade is made of premium carbon steel W1-7. It is a high-quality carbon steel, durable and easily sharpened. The handles are made of oak treated with linseed oil. Both parts develop a pleasant natural patina with use and over time.

    Maintenance

    Steel with a higher carbon content offers greater sharpness, easier sharpening, but requires more care compared to stainless steel. Keep the carbon steel blade clean and dry after use. For longer storage, we recommend preserving it with a suitable oil, such as camellia oil. The formation of a patina on carbon steel is a common phenomenon and not a material defect.
