Product detailed description

Japanese Nigiri Black Scissors 503-12 by Misuzu Hasami

Nigiri Basami are the most common scissors in Japan. They are forged from a single piece of steel, exceptionally light and comfortable to hold. Their simple design is intended for easy and quick use. They are used primarily in sewing and general handwork at home or in the studio. They can be used for herbs or other small kitchen tasks. They are held near the blade like tweezers when cutting. Type no.503 has a wide waist (spring part) and an extended handle, making it easy to hold and allowing for cutting even thicker materials. The scissors are made from carbon steel. They are a top-quality product, each hand-forged using traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation. The surface is treated with rust-resistant Ibushi finishing and develops a pleasant patina over time.

Material

The scissors are made from a composite material of the finest knife-grade carbon steel Shirogami White Steel #1 and soft iron. By covering the hard steel with soft iron, the blade gains higher toughness, is highly durable, and very easy to sharpen. This is a traditional technique that was also used in Japanese swords. The surface is treated with a rust-resistant Ibushi finish and over time develops a pleasant patina.

Maintenance

Steel with a higher carbon content (so-called carbon steel) offers greater sharpness, easier sharpening, but requires more care compared to stainless steel. The scissors need to be oiled regularly, preferably before their first use. Keep the carbon steel blade clean and dry after use. After cleaning, apply a thin layer of oil - preferably camellia oil, but almost any household lubricant will suffice. This layer of oil protects the scissors from moisture and corrosion. For long-term storage, we recommend again preserving them with suitable oil, or possibly wrapping the scissors in a piece of cloth or paper. The formation of patina is a common phenomenon in carbon steel and not a material defect.

The Art of Modern Tailoring

Contemporary tailoring is focus tailored to measure. It creates clothing for generations, not apparel for a season.

Sewing Studio Comfortably at Home, Is It Possible?

When I was only sewing for myself, I would set up the sewing machine and everything around it on the kitchen table.

Společnost Misuzu Hasami byla založena v roce 1949 a nabízí výrobky s vynikající ostrostí a trvanlivostí, zdokonalené úspěšnou kombinací tradice a nejmodernější technologie.
