    Nigiri shears 501 Misuzu Hasami

    The shape of nigiri-basami shears is rooted in more than a thousand years of Japanese blacksmithing tradition. In the past, they were among the most widespread universal tools in Japanese households, used wherever it was necessary to make a quick, smooth and precise small cut. The scissors rest loosely in the palm and return to the open position on their own after a light squeeze. Slightly curved blades with a sharp cutting angle ensure a clean cut without crushing the material. They are useful for sewing, paper crafts, and also in the kitchen for finely snipping herbs, trimming candle wicks, or for detailed work when thinning seedlings and shaping small plants.

    About the manufacturer

    Misuzu Hasami, based in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture, has been manufacturing specialized shears and scissors since 1949. The company complements its own production of traditional Nigiri clippers and tailoring tools with the wholesale distribution of cutting implements and scissors from local blacksmith workshops throughout the region.

    Materials and maintenance

    The blade is made of laminated steel featuring a high-carbon Shirogami #1 steel core clad in soft iron.


    After use, clean the shears immediately of any material residue or plant sap and dry them. Because carbon steel is prone to oxidation, regularly treat the steel surface and blades with a drop of camellia oil. Store in a dry place and bear in mind that the steel will develop a natural patina through continued use.

    Good to know

    The one-piece steel construction and finely shaped blades are designed for cutting thread, paper, soft herb stems and delicate materials. The tool is not intended for wire, hard plastic packaging or thick woody branches. Applying excessive force when squeezing on unsuitable material may lead to permanent deformation of the spring bend or misalignment of the blades. Keep out of reach of children.
