Material and care

The axe head is forged from unalloyed C60 carbon steel and coated with a protective layer against corrosion. The handle is made of American hickory, known for its strength and ability to absorb shocks. A cowhide protective sheath is included.

Store the axe in a dry place. After use and before long-term storage, clean the steel head and apply a thin layer of protective oil, such as camellia oil. To restore the edge, use a sharpening stone or puck; avoid overheating the edge with a powered grinder, as this could affect the temper of the steel. The leather sheath can occasionally be treated with a suitable leather care product, such as Huberd’s Shoe Grease.

What you should know

The Classic Scout is a lightweight one-handed hatchet designed primarily for smaller woodworking tasks. A longer and heavier axe is more suitable for splitting large logs. Before each use, check that the head is firmly seated and inspect the condition of the handle. Do not use the hatchet if the head is loose or the handle is damaged. Protect the blade from contact with stone, metal, and other hard materials. Maintain a safe area around you while working. Use the leather blade cover during storage and transport, and keep the tool out of the reach of children.
