    Perforated Skimmer Sori Yanagi

    Poached eggs, tender vegetables, and small dumplings are best removed from boiling water with a utensil that immediately drains away the liquid without crushing the ingredients. The compact stainless steel perforated skimmer by Sori Yanagi reliably separates ingredients from hot water or stock. The shape of its perforated bowl is slightly elliptical, making it easier to follow the contours of the pot and collect ingredients without dripping from the sides. For its functional and clean-lined concept, the entire collection received the Good Design Award in 1998.

    About the manufacturer

    Sori Yanagi (1915–2011), a prominent figure in post-war Japanese design, became renowned for combining Western industrial manufacturing with elements of traditional Japanese crafts. His work ranges from furniture and toys to subway stations. The kitchenware and cutlery designed by Yanagi have been manufactured since 1955 by Nihon Yoshokki in the city of Tsubame, one of Japan's traditional metalworking hubs.

    Materials and maintenance

    The skimmer is made of 18-8 stainless steel.

    It is dishwasher safe. To preserve the steel’s surface, avoid using wire scouring pads and abrasive cleaning products.

    Sori Yanagi, známý tvorbou nadčasového designu a uživatelsky přívětivých nástrojů pro kuchyň a domácnost, je považován za jednoho z nejvlivnějších produktových designérů a vůdčích osobností poválečného průmyslového designu v Japonsku. Kromě nábytku a výrobků pro domácnost navrhoval také hračky, motocykly a dokonce i stanice metra. Jeho návrhy často propojují jednoduchou praktičnost a možnosti západního průmyslového designu s prvky a technikami japonských řemeslných tradic. Jeho překližkovou stoličku Butterfly Stool dnes vyrábí společnost Vitra. Většinu kuchyňského a stolního nádobí vyrábí společnost Nihon Yoshokki Co., Ltd. v japonském městě Tsubame v prefektuře Niigata, které je centrem výroby příborů a oceli.
