Product detailed description

Traditional Japanese Axe Mizuno Kiwari

Mizuno Kiwari is a Japanese splitting axe forged from carbon steel, weighing 1500 grams. Manufactured in the legendary blacksmith area of Sanjo in Japan, it combines traditional craftsmanship techniques with proven materials. The head made of high-carbon steel and the long handle made of Japanese oak create a tool with exceptional durability, balance, and longevity. The head is adorned with three grooves on the left and four on the right side. These grooves symbolize the presence of Shinto gods in nature and invoke their protection whenever the axe is used for potentially dangerous work. The package also includes a leather sheath, which protects the blade during transport and storage.

Material

Carbon steel. Untreated oak wood.
Mizuno uses only the highest quality oak wood from northern Japan for making axe handles. Due to the alternating hot summers and cold winters, this wood naturally hardens, gaining fine texture and extraordinary durability.

Note: A cover made of natural leather is included.

Maintenance

Store the axe in a cool and dry place. The head is made of high-carbon steel, which is easy to sharpen but is not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel. After use, it is recommended to wipe the axe dry and optionally wrap the head in cloth. To protect the metal, you can apply an oil designated for steel tool maintenance, such as camellia oil, which is natural, does not dry out, and leaves no residues. Sharpening is possible, preferably using a quality sharpening stone.
The wooden handle is untreated, you can wax or lacquer it if needed.
