Product detailed description

Pocket Knife Yoshimi Kotoh Wenge VG10

Pocket knives Yoshimi Kotoh excel in their lightness, precision, and unique craftsmanship character. Each piece is handmade in a workshop on the Japanese island of Kyushu, where Yoshimi Kotoh has been making knives for over 40 years. The blade of stainless Japanese steel VG10 with a hardness of 60 HRC is set into a smooth handle made of African tropical wood Wenge, known for its hardness and distinctive grain. The knife mechanism is fully disassemblable and adjustable, complemented by a hand-stitched leather sheath. Each knife is original, both in the wood grain and in the final finish.

Manufacturer

Yoshimi Kotoh is a Japanese knifemaker from the island of Kyushu, who has been dedicated to handcrafting pocket knives for more than 40 years on a small, workshop scale. He is a member of the Japanese Knife Guild, and his work combines precise craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a feel for the material. Each knife is made in-house - from the forged blade of VG-10 or D2 steel to the finely carved handle of exotic wood. His knives are not mass-produced but unique tools with character.

Material

The blade is made from Japanese stainless steel VG10 and is set into a wooden handle made from African tropical wood Wenge. It is a very durable, hard wood.

Note: Each knife is unique with different coloring, texture, and final processing of the Wenge wood. Included is a leather-stitched sheath, again always with a slightly different color and texture. Do not use the knife for prying and avoid stressing the side to prevent the blade from breaking out of the wooden handle. If you wish for a lighter/darker shade of wood, please let us know in the note with your order. Or come view them all and choose directly in our showroom in Vršovice.

Maintenance

The mechanism is initially stiffer but will settle over time, or it can be fine-tuned with a screw near the blade's neck. After use, always clean, dry the knife, and store it in a dry place. Depending on the frequency of use, regular treatment with oil (e.g., camellia oil) is recommended for both the blade and the wooden handle. Use the wet method for sharpening on a whetstone
