Product detailed description

Traditional Carpenter's Axe Asano Mokkousho

One-handed small axe with a specifically shaped head derived from one of the traditional models with a history of more than a thousand years. 'Chouna' in Japanese means a tool used by skilled craftsmen and especially carpenters for their artistic work. It is a handy axe suitable for splitting soft, smaller wood or can be used in carving activities for shaping wood. The blade made of high-carbon steel can be very well sharpened using the traditional method on sharpening stones. Its specific cutout allows for a grip close to the head and more precise detailed work with wood. The handle is made of lacquered Japanese white oak, finished with a red stripe and with a hole for a lanyard.

Material

The steel head is made of high-carbon steel type SK-5. Due to its workability, it is used in a wide range of tools such as kitchen or hunting knives, blades, long-edge tools, etc. The material has great toughness and hardness, but on the other hand, lower corrosion resistance. The wooden handle is made of Japanese white oak.

Note: The smaller version of the axe fits comfortably into the box Toyo Steel Y350, in which it is photographed.

Maintenance

Store the axe in a cool and dry place. The head is not made of stainless steel, but of high-carbon steel type SK-5, which can be easily sharpened, but has lower corrosion resistance. It is ideal to dry the axe after use, or wrap the head in cloth. It is also advisable to regularly apply oil for the maintenance of steel tools, such as camellia oil. Sharpening is possible, preferably on a sharpening stone.
