Product detailed description

Universal gardening scissors from the Japanese brand Toyama Hamono. A basic piece in the portfolio, handcrafted and still made according to traditional techniques that have lasted for more than 150 years.

The scissors are robust, with a pleasant back pull when cutting, and are equipped with a massive ratchet lock. The blade is made of high-quality carbon steel, ensuring extreme sharpness and precise cutting. They are specially designed for cutting raw twigs and stems, ideal for plant and bonsai care, flower trimming, and pruning smaller branches up to a diameter of 12–15 mm.

The ergonomic handle is designed to provide a comfortable grip and facilitate long-term work. Model T-101 has handles complemented by oiled walnut wood, masterfully set into the polished steel handle. This precise inlay requires special techniques and skills, and even experienced craftsmen can only produce a few pieces per day.

Toyama Hamono

Manufactured by Toyama Hamono, a Japanese manufacturer based in the traditional blacksmithing district in Sanjo Niigata. Its history began in 1861, when it started producing cutlery products. Today, Toyama Hamono is an established brand and enjoys recognition not only at home but also in Western markets. Their current products still carry the tradition and craftsmanship of making samurai Japanese swords. In production, they combine modern steel drawing technologies with manual sharpening, grinding, and final finishing.

Material

The scissors are made of steel with a high carbon content. This provides the material with higher hardness, very good durability, and the ability to achieve extreme sharpness. Over time, a patina may appear, which does not reduce functionality. With improper maintenance, the material is prone to rust or chipping.

Maintenance

The scissors are intended for cutting fresh branches and stems up to a diameter of 12–15 mm. It is recommended to cut softer and thinner branches to familiarize yourself with the tool before cutting larger and stronger branches.
Cutting anything other than plants or their improper use may cause damage. Do not cut hard objects such as wires, artificial and dried flowers, hard shrubs, or bamboo.

Steel with higher carbon content requires careful maintenance. Always clean the scissors after work and keep them dry. Depending on the frequency of use, regularly oil them, let them dry, and finish drying. You can use camellia oil or our offered maintenance kit. Oiling is also recommended if you plan to store them for a longer period.
