The Japanese company Asaka was founded in 1661 as a wholesaler of sharp tools and cutlery, such as kitchen knives, at a time when samurai were still living in Japan. When the country opened up to the West, sometime in the early 1890s, the company's then-president, anticipating a future rise in engineering and construction activities, began developing shovels. Since 1905, Asaka has been using its logo - a golden elephant holding a shovel with its trunk, symbolizing strength and flexibility, standing firmly on the ground. The company is still located in its place of origin, the city of Sakai (Osaka Prefecture), and manufactures all products in its Japanese factories. In production, it draws on its more than 300-year tradition and uses its own sophisticated heat treatment technology, which provides the blades of its shovels and spades with hardness and flexibility.
