The Japanese company Asaka was founded in 1661 as a wholesaler of sharp tools and cutlery, such as kitchen knives, at a time when samurai still lived in Japan. When the country opened to the West, sometime in the early 1890s, the then president of the company, anticipating the future growth of engineering and construction activities, started developing shovels. Since 1905, Asaka has used its logo - a golden elephant holding a shovel in its trunk, symbolizing strength and flexibility, standing firmly with feet on the ground. The company is still based in its place of origin, the city of Sakai (Osaka Prefecture) and manufactures all its products in its Japanese factories. In production, it draws on its over 300-year tradition and uses its own sophisticated heat treatment technology, which gives the blades of its shovels and spades hardness and flexibility.
