    French Wool Coat Le Laboureur

    The French wool coat that Le Laboureur has been producing for over 60 years is one of their iconic garments with a tried and tested, thoughtful design. It is based on a historical pattern specially designed for workers in the forges of Gueugnon, France. The wool from which it is made is warm, breathable, and resistant to heat and flames. Simply and practically designed, the coat is unlined, has a loose fit, and simple sleeves without buttons. It features 3 outer pockets and one inner breast pocket, which can be used for tools, as well as for a wallet, phone, diary, or gloves. The coat is the equivalent of wrapping yourself in a heavy warm blanket and is intended to be thrown over lighter jackets or sweaters as an outer layer for the harshest weather. Natural wool is hydrophilic and remains warm and comfortable even in the rain. The coat is in a khaki shade - it has a brownish-green color with dark red buttons. It is made from 100% natural wool sourced from black sheep from southern France. The fiber is hand-dyed with natural dyes such as indigo, cochineal, birch leaves... without the use of chemical substances. Thus, wool products from Le Laboureur are 100% made in France, from sheep rearing to final finishing. The coat has a large embroidered label sewn into the inner pocket and one spare button.

    The brand founded by Primo Zalenti in the eastern French town of Digoin has been producing the finest, hand-made clothing for 60 years. The original ethos of the brand was to provide local artisans with durable and reliable everyday clothing, and this mission is upheld to this day. Even though the French brand's portfolio remains quite traditional, it also appeals to global fashion and lifestyle brands for collaboration. Le Laboureur has collaborated with the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons, for which it produces a black shirt and jacket, with black buttons and details and a striking white, hand-made print on the back. The products are manufactured in limited quantities, and the simplest way to obtain them is to visit the Dover Street Market store.

    Material and Care

    100% French wool.

    The wool fiber comes from black sheep from southern France. The wool is first degreased, rinsed, and washed. Then it is dried, carded, and spun. The wool fiber is hydrophilic, so it remains dry because the moisture is drawn into the fiber core. This keeps the wool warm and pleasant even when exposed to rain. The transformation of raw wool into woollen fabric is a complex process that involves several stages. These are 100% carried out in France.

    The coat is recommended to be regularly aired, and if necessary, clean only the soiled areas by hand. For thorough cleaning, we recommend entrusting it to a dry cleaner. Alternatively, the coat can be washed by hand once in a longer period, with consideration for natural wool - in lukewarm water, using a special wool detergent, without wringing, and drying on a flat surface.

    The given dimensions are in centimeters. The coat has a slightly oversized fit. We recommend ordering the same size as you usually wear for jackets or coats.
