    French Wool Coat Le Laboureur 

    The French wool coat, which Le Laboureur has been producing for more than 60 years, is one of their iconic garments with a proven and thoughtful design. It is based on a historical pattern that was specifically designed for workers in the metalworks in Gueugnon, France. The wool it is made from is warm, breathable, and resistant to heat and flames. Simply and practically designed, the coat is unlined, has a loose fit and simple sleeves without buttons. It has 3 external pockets and one internal chest pocket that can be used for tools, as well as for a wallet, phone, diary, or gloves. The coat is equivalent to wrapping yourself in a heavy warm blanket and is intended to be thrown over lighter jackets or sweaters as an outer layer in the most demanding weather conditions. Natural wool is hydrophilic and remains warm and comfortable even in the rain. The coat is in the shade of bleu horizon ("blue horizon") and has a gray-blue color and light brown wooden buttons. It is made of 100% natural wool, which comes from black sheep from southern France. The fiber is hand-dyed with natural dyes, such as indigo, cochineal, birch leaves... without the use of chemicals. Le Labourer's wool products are therefore 100% made in France, from sheep breeding to final finish. The coat has a large embroidered label sewn into the inner pocket and an extra button.

    Manufacturer

    The company was founded in the 1950s by a young Italian emigrant Primo Zélanti. Since its inception, it has been based in the French town of Digoin in Burgundy. Le Laboureur translates as "plowman" and its production still focuses on two main areas - workwear and traditional garments of its region. The main goal of Le Laboureur is quality and worker protection, though they are not afraid to add vibrant colors or interesting functional details to proven cuts. Since 2010, they have also been regularly collaborating with designer Junya Watanabe on collections for the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons.

    Material and Maintenance 

    100% French wool.

    The wool fiber comes from black sheep from southern France. The wool is first de-greased, rinsed, and washed. Then it is dried, carded, and spun. Wool fiber is hydrophilic, so it remains dry as moisture is drawn into the fiber's core. Because of this, wool remains warm and pleasant even when exposed to rain. Transforming raw wool into woolen cloth is a complex process involving several stages, all of which are 100% carried out in France.

    It is recommended to regularly air the coat, and if necessary, clean only soiled areas by hand. Comprehensive cleaning is recommended to be entrusted to a dry cleaner. Alternatively, the coat can be hand washed once in a long while with regard to natural wool - in lukewarm water, with a special wool detergent, without wringing, and by drying on a flat surface.
