    Japanese Stainless Steel Kenzan

    Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement, which has evolved over many centuries. The word "ikebana" literally means "flower art". Ikebana is more than just arranging flowers; it is an art form that seeks to express simplicity, harmony, and natural beauty. Ikebana is also connected with Japanese philosophy and spirituality, particularly with the concept of wabi-sabi, characterized by simplicity, incompleteness, and the beauty of imperfection. Kenzans are metal plates with needles, pins, or spikes that secure flowers, leaves, and branches in arrangements. The needles hold the plants in place and allow for different floral arrangements. The kenzan is placed in a water container, and then flowers are inserted into it. It can also be used for dried flowers. This arrangement tool enables the creation of complex and elegant floral arrangements thanks to its ability to keep plants firmly in place.

    Manufacturer

    Ishizaki Kenzan is based in the city of Sanjo in Niigata Prefecture. The city's blacksmithing tradition dates back to 1635, and it remains a significant center for smithing factories and hardware businesses. Stainless steel kenzans are made here by hand - needles are inserted one by one into a plate with small holes, which is then placed in a mold and filled with molten steel. Depending on the type of kenzan, this can involve hundreds of needles, requiring persistence and concentration. Ishizaki Kenzan prides itself on the quality of its products and supplies them worldwide. Their kenzans are popular among both professional ikebana artists and amateurs.

    Material

    Stainless steel on a non-slip rubber base. The stainless steel kenzan is electrolytically plated, giving it a shiny and long-lasting color that neither rusts nor fades.  

    Note: Delivered in original packaging.
    The triangular and hexagonal variants do not have non-slip rubber.

    Maintenance

    After use, thoroughly rinse the kenzan with water. Remove all dirt from the base and between the needles. Then dry it and store it in a safe place where it won't fall. Keep out of reach of children.

    For cleaning the needles, you can also use a brass corrector.
