The Higonokami brand has a tradition of over a century in Japanese cutlery. Since 1894, when Komataro Nagao founded the Hirata Knife workshop in Miki (Hyogo Prefecture), production has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, it is led by the fifth generation of the Nagao family, who handcraft the original Higonokami pocket knives. These knives are symbols of simplicity and functionality, characterized by clean design, the absence of a locking mechanism (replaced by the chikiri lever), and traditional Japanese sharpening. Nagao Kanekoma Knife is the only true manufacturer bearing the Higonokami name.

The blade is made of VG10 stainless steel with a high carbon content. VG10 is considered one of the best stainless steels for knife production. Due to its chemical composition, VG-10 combines the advantages of carbon and stainless steel, as it can be very sharp, has great edge retention, is relatively easy to sharpen, and has excellent corrosion resistance. The handle is hand-bent stainless. Both parts develop a pleasant natural patina through use and over time.

No special maintenance is required. Clean the knife after use and keep the blade clean and dry. We recommend using a water sharpening stone for sharpening. The somewhat stiff action of the mechanism, which will loosen over time, can be tightened with a sharp tap on the rivet with a hammer. If the blade is too difficult to open, strike the "Chikiri (lever)" against a table downward.
