Product detailed description

Traditional One-Handed Axe Mizuno Warikomi Jigata Masakari

The Japanese one-handed axe from the Mizuno Seisakujo workshop is a traditional tool handcrafted by Japanese masters using proven methods. Made from high-quality steel, it is exceptionally sharp, durable, and precise. Originally intended for lumberjacks and carpenters, it is perfect for wood splitting, as well as for shaping and chopping in the construction of traditional wooden houses or for artistic carpentry. Thanks to its massive head and ergonomic oak handle, it is ideal for smaller splitting tasks – for example, preparing kindling. It also serves well when camping, building a shelter, or preparing wood for a fire. The axe is not meant for blunt impact blows – its strength lies in precision and sharpness. Use it with respect and care, and it will reward you with speed, efficiency, and a genuine experience of working.

Material

The axe head is made of three layers of steel using a technique called "Warikomi." The core of the blade is made from hard carbon steel S45C, surrounded by softer steel. This type of construction ensures an exceptionally sharp and hard blade, while the softer layers provide the necessary flexibility and absorb shocks. Thanks to this combination of materials, the axe boasts high toughness and hardness, although its resistance to corrosion is lower. The handle is made from oak wood sourced from northern Japan.

Note: It includes a natural leather cover.

Maintenance

Store the axe in a cool, dry place. The head is made from high-carbon steel, which sharpens easily but is not as resistant to corrosion as stainless steel. After use, we recommend wiping the axe dry and possibly wrapping the head in cloth. To protect the metal, you can occasionally apply an oil designed for the maintenance of steel tools, such as camellia oil, which is natural, does not dry out, and leaves no residue. Sharpening is possible, preferably using a quality sharpening stone.
